Fruits and Vegetables High in Iodine

Iodine is important for the functioning of the hormones that regulate the thyroid and many other body processes. The RDA of iodine is 150 mcg per day for adults. Seafood is a good source of iodine but if you are a vegetarian or don't like seafood, there are other ways to get enough in your diet.

Here are five fruits and vegetables that are high in iodine.

Kelp
Sea vegetables like kelp are a fantastic source of iodine. A quarter cup of kelp contains about 415 mcg of iodine. Kelp is available in capsules or powdered form at health food stores.

Baked Potato
One medium baked potato with skin contains 60 mcg of iodine.

Prunes
Five prunes contain about 13 mcg of iodine.

Strawberries
Strawberries are one of the few fruits that contains high amounts of iodine. A cup of strawberries contains 12.96 mcg of iodine or 8.6% of the RDA.

Green Beans
Half a cup of green beans contains about 3 mcg.

Lima Beans
A half cup of lima beans contains 8 mcg of iodine.
